ANN ARBOR, June 20, 2023 – Valerion Energy today announced its selection as a finalist and awardee of the “LGES Battery Challenge 2022,” sponsored and directed by LG Energy Solution (LGES; KRX: 373220.) Valerion is a battery start-up developing lithium sulfur battery cells based on the company’s proprietary nanofiber technology.

For over six months, 117 start-ups from 23 countries, including the United States, South Korea, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, and India, submitted proposals, including next-generation battery materials, battery management systems (BMS), battery recycling and reuse, battery maintenance, and smart factory technologies. Through meticulous evaluation process, LGES selected ten finalists to advance key battery-related technologies.

As a finalist, Valerion Energy will have the opportunity to work with LGES to develop our groundbreaking lithium-sulfur batteries alongside industry leaders.

“As a front-runner in the fast-growing battery industry, it is imperative that we secure leadership in future battery technologies as well,” said Sungrok Bang, Research Fellow at LG Energy Solution. “We will continue on with a variety of open innovation programs to advance our technological competitiveness in the battery field.”

“We are thrilled to work with LGES on our ground-breaking technology to deliver highly performant and cost-effective batteries for critical mobility applications,” remarked Dr. Nicholas Kotov, founder of Valerion Energy. “We can’t wait to see what the next few months hold.”
